Chile: World's Best Adventure Travel Destination for the sixth consecutive year

World Travel Awards recognition has favored Chile continuously since 2016.

December 2021.-

For the sixth year in a row, Chile was chosen as the World's Best Adventure Travel Destination, surpassing other important places such as Australia, Azores, Canada, Ecuador, Jamaica, Japan, Mauritius, New Zealand, Ras Al Khaimah, Sri Lanka and the United States.

The award highlights the country's attributes as the best in the world for the practice of adventure tourism, closely linked to the extraordinary Chilean nature throughout its territory.

"Being once again the world champions of adventure tourism fills us with pride, joy, enthusiasm and commitment to the reactivation of tourism in our country, an economic sector so important and necessary for thousands of small and medium-sized companies that give life to tourism in Chile and for hundreds of places that have made tourism their main activity", said the Undersecretary of Tourism, Jose Luis Uriarte, about the recognition.

Meanwhile, the national director of Sernatur, Andrea Wolleter, celebrated the award and said that "this is excellent news. Our country is the ideal place for adventure tourism and a world-class destination. From north to south there are possibilities to enjoy beaches, mountains, volcanoes, the mountain range and an endless number of natural settings".

It is worth mentioning that last October, Chile was crowned for the seventh consecutive time as the Best Adventure Travel Destination in South America, a recognition also awarded by the World Travel Awards. On that occasion, the Atacama Desert was also recognized as the Best Romantic Destination.

The country's length extends over 39 degrees and increases to over 72 if the Chilean Antarctic Territory is included.  The varied geography and the influence of the Pacific Ocean account for the diversity of landscapes, climates, ecosystems, flora and fauna in Chile.

Among the main places to visit are Patagonia with beautiful National Parks and Reserves such as Torres del Paine Park, Kaweskar National Reserve, Pumalin Douglas Tompkins Park, Laguna San Rafael and many others. The capital Santiago offers cultural attractions and in its surroundings fantastic natural attractions, many of them sheltered by the Andes mountain range. In the extreme north, San Pedro de Atacama is the starting point to explore rich archaeological sites, desert landscapes and salt flats, geyser fields and volcanoes.

Also noteworthy are the tours to the Region de Los Lagos (Lakes Region) and Chiloe Archipelago, which attracts thousands of tourists every year for its beautiful landscapes, ancient churches, rich folklore, traditions and gastronomy. Pucon is undoubtedly another favorite destination in southern Chile for thousands of national and international visitors. We cannot fail to mention Easter Island (Rapa Nui in native language), one of the most important places of interest in the country for its natural beauty, mysterious Moai and ancestral Polynesian culture.

Other tourist programs throughout the country may include activities as diverse as sandboarding in the dunes of the Atacama Desert, canopying across expanses of virgin forests, practicing nautical sports in the immensity of the Pacific Ocean or enjoying sport fishing in the rivers and lakes of the South and Chilean Patagonia.

In short, Chile is a true paradise for nature lovers. From the majesty of Patagonia with its glaciers and towering mountains, to the Atacama Desert with its starry skies and lunar landscapes, this South American country offers an amazing natural diversity. Exploring the lush forests of the Araucanía, touring the vineyards of the Valparaíso region or marveling at the fjords and canals of the Los Lagos region are just some of the experiences Chile has in store for those seeking natural beauty at its finest. A trip to Chile is a trip to the wonder of Mother Nature.
